Huon Hooke - The Real Review

93 Points - 4 Stars Silver

Deep, dense red-purple with black-ish tinges, the bouquet sweetly spicy,

fresh-tilled earth and a trace of tar, the palate elegantly formed and soft tannined, a lighter wine by the maker’s standards, but still full-bodied and has a touch

of richness. It already drinks very well. - HH, TRR

2020 Eisenstone Gomersal Shiraz SR808

$85.00Price
  • Vineyard Notes

Grapes were sourced from grapes grown in the Gomersal sub region of the Barossa Valley. The vines are grown in shallow soils over a stony base and as a result are always low yielding. Gomersal tends to produce wines with more savory notes than wines from further north of the valley.

  • Winemaking

The grapes were fermented in small batches and after fermentation was matured in 50% new French oak for 18 months prior to bottling. Minimal intervention is used in the winemaking process and the wine is moved the minimal times prior to bottling and is not cold stabilised or filtered.

  • Tasting Notes

Deep intense ruby red in colour. Savory fruit with ripe berry fruits overlaying spicey oak characters. The soft grained tannins provide a powerful backbone and will soften and enrich the wine as it ages. The palate is long and balanced for ease of drinking when young but also as a mature wine.
